The Fall Of the Four
(A play)
Performed by the Folkvangr Theater Troupe
Narrator steps out in front of the group.
Narrator:
Welcome good Jarls, and all those of the Myth Wood who have joined us this day. For your enjoyment (but mostly for ours) We present to you the dramatic reenactment of “The Fall of the Four”.
Our setting of course is the Majestic Myth Wood, but more specifically, let us go to the mighty walled Champion’s Hall. Here we find the Keep in the possession of the despicable Four Devils.. Here they have brought the Diatessaron, the source of their power. Its very touch kills any of the people of the Myth Wood. Into this quiet setting enters the mysterious Hunter, recently arrived in the Myth Wood from the far off Realm of Folkvangr.
The Hunter walks up to the Keep
The Hunter:
Foul and dastardly Daemons, Trolls, Revenant, Devils, strange silver chained monsters, or whatever you are. The people of the Myth Wood have received word that you have captured Champion’s Hall. They have gathered an army the likes of which the Myth Wood has never seen, to vanquish you.
Four Devils:
Really, normally they just run from us. How many did they bring?
The Hunter:
I believe all of them.
Four Devils:
All? Like everyone?
The Hunter:
Yep.
Four Devils:
Might be enough…. Maybe not. Should be fun to see them finally attempt to be brave and fight us.
The Hunter:
Well probably not. They will find some shifty underhanded way…
Narrator:
At this time in our setting arrives The Derf. Mighty Blacksmith and wielder of one of the Hammers of Unmaking, with his trusty companion Princess Struggle Snuggle.
The Derf:
Hic… Wow, the Derf has never seen that many people coming to kill four people since everyone tried to kill the Blighted, before that the Moria, the time before that was the Succubus, and before that Vigo’s band of Brigands. Normally they don’t let you group together like this… Just pick’em off when they are alone… Hic… I need a nap. (Lays down in front of the Keep.)
The Hunter leaves the area.
Constantine and Ursula walk on set.
Narrator:
Now enters the Helions, formerly known as the Blighted. Recently a peace treaty has been brokered between them and the rest of the Myth Wood by maybe, sort of, kinda, making Constantine a King maybe. With Constantine, is the lovely Ursula, his faithful companion. The rest of the Helions were there as well, but let's be honest, the rest are just side characters to these two.
Constantine:
Filthy Devils, we the Helions have come to destroy you!
Four Devils:
Come at me Bro!
Constantine:
Well no, not yet. We don’t have enough people yet.
Four Devils:
There are like 6 or 7 of you guys. You could probably take one or two of us.
Constantine:
Yeah well that would be aggressive and hostile. We Helions are not that way. By the way, I have been meaning to thank you guys for getting everyone to hate you and want to kill you. It took some of the stress off of us. We don’t do well with stress.
Four Devils:
Hey, you’re a King now, sorta, maybe. Why don’t you join with us and pardon us or whatever Kings do?
Constantine:
Sorry man, that's not going to happen. The people want blood (and it's not going to be Helion blood). So yeah, someone has to take the dirt nap. Looks like it is going to be you four. Still, thanks for all the help.
Constantine steps back
Riddick and Ryn enter
Narrator:
Jarl Riddick and the people of Brannheim arrive. Again, we only had enough money to hire two actors, so we picked the important ones. That would be Riddick and Ryn. But that day there were at least 6 or 7 of them…. Riddick has recently been changed back into a human. He was a troll.
Ryn:
My Jarl and the rest of Brannheim have come to destroy the 4 devils.
Four Devils:
Right on. Let's do this.
Ryn:
Oh no, not yet. We have to wait for the rest to arrive. Otherwise some of us might die.
Four Devils:
You do know that when you die you come back in like 3 minutes?
Ryn:
Yeah, but that's a long walk man. Anyway, they are not that far behind us.
Rokai enters the set
Narrator:
Now enters the Jarl of Gray Arrow. Recently he made a bid for the crown, and he almost got it too. Then he went and decided he was willing to share the crown with the Blighted, oops, I mean the Helions. That didn’t go over so well. Anyhow, now just like Constantine he is a King, kinda, sorta, maybe. Again, money issues only allow for us to get a guy to play Rokai, but he too had like 6 or 7 others with him.
Jarl Rokai:
People of the Myth Wood, it is I, Jarl Rokai, and I have come to lead you to battle against the evil four devils.
Four Devils:
Sweet! So we ready to get this party started?
Rokai looks around
Jarl Rokai:
Yeah, no. We are still missing some people. Don’t worry though, they should be along shortly.
Four Devils:
Come on, I’m not great with math but you all should be enough to kill us, or at least die in brave combat.
Jarl Rokai:
Combat….. No, we will destroy you with Unity! All of us joined together in a single mission of cleansing. We will rid the Myth Wood of evil once and for all. (Or at least until next season when another one comes along.)
Enters Jarl Faolin and Gadaren
Narrator:
Finally, the Jarl of Hammer’s Hold arrives with his army. Imagine 6 or 7 people. You’re going to see two, but imagine 6 or 7. Jarl Faolin with his magical Ice sword and his trusted, but maybe evil possessed, sidekick Gadaren, who also has a magical sword. (These Hammer’s Hold guys have a thing for magic swords, Freud would love it). They have just finished a quest to destroy the cube of the Four. This quest did not destroy the cube, obviously, but they did get a sinister looking black cover to put over the cube. What could go wrong?
Jarl Faolin:
Hammer’s Hold has come. With us comes the doom of the Four.
Gadaren holds up the black cover
Four Devils:
Alright now we get to fight. Finally. Not sure how you’re going to fight with a sinister looking black cover… but that is your problem.
Jarl Faolin:
Fight? No we don’t do that. We overpower you with numbers, and then use some magic to make us unkillable then beat you like a redheaded stepchild. The idea is to make you so frustrated you quit and don’t come back…. Anyway, Ursula your up.
Ursula makes casting magic gestures and mumbles to herself
Narrator:
Ursula casts magical spells to super heat the Fours weapons, rendering them useless.
Jarl Rokai:
Now they have no weapons and can’t defend themselves. We can finally cleanse the Wood of this evil.
One of the devils with an ax lifts it up laughing.
Four Devils:
Yeah, so, I love fire and my weapon is made of the stuff. You can’t superheat something that is made of fire.
Constantine:
Ryn your up.
Ryn shoots the devil with a poison arrow.
Four Devils:
I have an armor point, so your silly arrow did nothing. Come at me bro.
Ryn:
I have no intention of getting close to you while you’re armed. However, the arrow is poisoned, so your going to be dead in like, 15 seconds I think.
Four Devils:
Fine, I got 15 seconds, let’s go. Who is going to try and kill me like a man?
Jarl Rokai:
Everyone, just hold back, let the poison do its job. He is the only one with a weapon. 15 seconds and we Win!
The Derf:
Wait, what did I hear? Someone has a broken weapon? The Derf can fix that.
An ax is held out to the Derf and he touches it with his Hammer.
The poisoned Devil dies a very painful death.
The Four:
Well, you got one of us, but now I have a weapon. What's your plan now?
Jarl Riddick hits him with a dagger.
Ryn;
That's poisoned too.
Four Devils:
Come on! That is just stupid. Someone attack me.
Jarl Faolin:
Just let the poison do its job.
The poisoned Devil dies a very painful death.
A spear is held out to the Derf.
Four Devils:
Ok that's two of us, but now I have a spear. Let's do this!
Ryn:
We are all out of poison weapons guys.
Jarl Rokai:
Someone is going to have to fight him.
Gadaren:
Send in someone who is expendable and not all that important. Natsra or the Hunter should do. They don’t have magical all-powerful swords, so no one will miss them.
Gadaren fondles his sword while talking.
Jarl Faolin:
You hear the man, Hunter, go fight with bravery.
The Hunter starts walking up to the Keep.
Ryn shoots the devil with an arrow
Ryn:
Sorry my bad, we had one left.
TheDevil dies a very painful death from poison.
A sword is held out to the Derf but this time he is sound asleep.
Four Devils:
Fine you have killed three of us. Still, as long as even one of us lives, we will make you fight like warriors. Now you will face the power of the cube.
The devil picks up the cube and comes out of the keep. He moves to the crowd of people. They all run in fear. Ursula however holds back and hides. As the devil terrorizes the people with the cube, Ursula sneaks up behind him and stabs him in the back. The devil drops the cube.
Jarl Faolin quickly but carefully covers the Cube.
The Devils disappear.
Jarl Faolin:
We are victorious! The Four Devils are Vanquished! We the brave and courageous Einherjar of the Myth Wood have once again beaten a great and overpowered evil (of our own making).
Jarl Rokai:
Yes, in a great show of Union and peaceful coexistence we have beaten evil and proven our strength without any loss of life on our part. In years to come we will look back on this day, the day the Four fell, and tell our children of our courageousness.
Narrator:
Thus, the Four Devils fell. In short order however, the people of the Wood discovered that with the cube covered Arcane magic was no longer available to them. They felt this was a worthwhile sacrifice to be rid of the Four Devils. Those in power decided to cast the Cube into Dragon Fall Lake. On the way there, the four men who had been chained to the cube, and thus become the Four Devils, appeared. They were no longer devils, just Einherjar. They quickly armed themselves and killed the men tasked with casting the cube into the water.
It is believed that after this they boarded a ship, with Riven and the Hunter, that was anchored in Dragon Fall lake. The ship set sail. No one is sure where to, but some say it was headed back to Folkvangr.
Thank you for your patience, and we hope you enjoyed our performance today.
