June 19th Myth Wood L.A.R.P. event

Clear skies, comfortable temperatures, a light breeze at times. The sunlight filtered through the leaves of the forest onto the winding trails. The sound of battle, the screams of death and defeat. Children running for their lives. Towns sacked, and leaders left distraught at the wreckage of their former homes… A glorious day in the Myth Wood.

The June 19th event is over but what a day it was. We will be talking about it all for years to come. Thank you everyone who made it out and joined in on the mayhem and fun.

A Recap:

While both outposts got off to a fairly normal start it was not long before the monsters had them working hard to defend themselves. A few trade caravans were successful but not many. It was around this point that a few lucky characters found cursed coins that corrupted them and compelled them to work as double agents for the Darkheart. At the end of the first scenario the outpost of Brighten Creek had it’s townspeople killed and it’s shield stolen. The outpost of Fizbandurrr almost fell to the same fate but the double agent was not quite able to kill all the townsfolk.

The second half of the day had the monsters over-running Fizbandurr, and the squires of the Wood forming a cult to the Darkheart. A menacing Deathknight entered the Wood and proved to be a challenge for monsters and warriors alike. The warriors of both outposts united and were able to fight back the monsters, but not before the monsters built a shrine to the Blackheart. The unified outpost warriors were able to put down the squire’s cult for the time being and retrieve their two shields. However, they did not have enough time to rebuild the outposts.

In short, a glorious day of battle in the woods. Thank you all so much it was a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see what happens next at the August event.

Greetings from the Myth Wood,

I just wanted to take a minute and touch base with everyone. We are approaching the start of the 2021 L.A.R.P. season. This year is a little different than others, the storyline has moved forward in time and a new character leveling system is being utilized.

What that means for all of you is that this year is a great year to come out and L.A.R.P.! 

Everyone will be required to make new characters. So for anyone who has been on the fence about coming out because they did not know where to start, now is the time because we are all at the beginning. Basically if you have ever wanted to try out L.A.R.P., this is the best possible time to come and join us in  the Myth Wood.

Over the last 9 year we have had amazing characters that we will be saying goodbye to, I wanted to do something special to honor those characters. I have set up a new and bigger graveyard in the Myth Wood, Einherjar’s Rest. So anyone who would like to build a headstone for their past characters, to be placed in Einherjar’s Rest, is welcome to do so. As an incentive, the former council of Jarls (as their last act as Jarls) will judge the best headstones and the winners will receive prizes. To be eligible you will need to have the headstone in the Myth Wood by May 15th.

The Build day is right around the corner, March 27th. This is a great opportunity for people to come see how we build our gear, and try some out. Over the years I think most of the questions I receive from people who are new to L.A.R.P. tend to be weapons related, or garb related. The Build Day event is the perfect time to get those questions answered in person from people who build or make this stuff all the time. It is also a great time to talk about your character and meet and greet the other players without being in character.

I am looking forward to an amazing L.A.R.P. 2021 Season!

Rebyrta 27th, St Rokai’s day. Smiths from both the towns of Val’Haven, in Valhalla and D’Eirstad, in Helheim, are busy building weapons and gear for the bearers of the Soul Crystals. The work is grueling and the anticipation is high. All must be ready in time for Skyld 15, St. Mephisto’s day when the Crystal Bearers return to Myth’gar.
 
Due to our inability to rent a large enough space for a feast this year I will be opening up the New Shop for a build day. Stop on out and learn how we build weapons and props for the Myth Wood. If the weather is cooperative we will have sparring and weapons training. We will have a table for snacks so feel free to bring something to share. In the afternoon we will have an awards ceremony that will cover the last two years of play.
I look forward to seeing all who can attend. This event will be held at my place (the Myth Wood). Doors will open at 10:00 a.m. This will be an out of character event. We will have Handbooks available and be able to answer any questions people may have regarding the upcoming L.A.R.P. season

2021 Handbook

Greetings everyone from the Myth Wood,

This year’s Handbook is now ready and available on our website, http://themythwood.com/handbooks/. The making of this handbook has been a group effort from the very beginning, so I would like to take a minute and thank those who helped me with the writing of it. Always first and foremost Amy Patterson, Conor and Owen Ableman without their help and support there would be no Myth Wood. Next up is Mark Steffan, it was our conversation in July that started the reboot, and his feedback that created the finished product. At this point I had a small but dedicated group of individuals who read, re-read, and even had it read to them, then gave me feedback to clean up my word vomit I called a handbook. In no special order; Brent and Danyel Pick, DeWayne Cameron, Cameron Pelkey, Bobby Milliman, Scott Milliman, James and Micah Burton, Steven Foster, Jeremy Cox, and Joey Janowski. Thank you guys for all your hard work.

Welcome 2021 Season

Welcome to the Myth Wood 2021 L.A.R.P. season. Many of you already know, but for those that do not, this year will see some large storyline changes.

With the conclusion of last year’s larp, the plague is gone. What happens next is somewhat of a mystery. Sometime after the events of 18 F.K. the Einherjar become mortals again. An unknown time after becoming mortal the people of the Myth Wood are forced into a mass exodus.

The people flee to the purgatorys of the Einherjar. Eir’s Garden in Valhalla, D’Eir’s Garden in Helheim, and F’Eir’s Stone Ship in Folkvangr. These groups start settlements with very little communication between each other, except by way of the Church of the Six.

Now events have transpired that have opened the gates into the Myth Wood at two of the settlements, and the long lost people of the Myth Wood find they may finally get to return to their Realm.
With all this stated, I think no one will be surprised that all players will need to start new characters for this year. This year’s Handbook will also feature a new character progression system in the form of Character Points and aSkill Tree. If all goes well, this year’s Handbook will be ready for everyone on February 21st.

The following dates are not locked in stone yet. If enough people are not able to make a date we will do our best to change it. That being, said if no negative feedback is given by February 21st we will lock the dates in.

  • March 27th, Tournament and Feast.
  • May 15th, First L.A.R.P.
  • June 19th, Second L.A.R.P.
  • August 7th, Third L.A.R.P.
  • September 18th, 4th and final L.A.R.P. of 2021.

I look forward to seeing everyone in the Woods.

October 2020 Recap

I don’t believe anyone will argue with me that 2020 has been a great disappointment to us so far. Yesterday was no disappointment. The first and only L.A.R.P. event we were able to have this year was a tremendous success and a thoroughly enjoyable day. For those of us that were able to attend, a more beautiful fall day could not have been asked for. As always, I feel the Larpers of the Myth Wood are the best group of people I know. Thanks to all of you for making 2020 a great deal more enjoyable for me, and all of us that spend time in the Myth Wood. While this year was short and sweet, I look forward to seeing everyone next year for a full season of Larping.
 
A recap of the days happenings:
 
With the unanimous agreement of the Jarls of the Myth Wood, the Church of the Six Higher Powers has become the faith of the Wood. With this in effect all battles honor the Six and go towards diminishing the Plague Pools. To expedite the effect the Jarls had a day of combat for the people of the Wood. The first round was a battle to capture a skull. After much battle and loss of life on all sides, Team Branheim was Victorious. This team was led by Jarl Faolin and Jarl Ryn. This gave the Six enough power to destroy the second Plague pool and return Jarl Elric’s spear.
 
The ancient book of Magic was found next to the ruins of the Mage’s Tower. The book along with the Axe of Dyews Pater, brought to the Myth Wood by the Necromancer Burnheart, were bonded to the Honor of the Six. Each item was then thrown into one of the two remaining Plague pools, much as Jarl Elric’s spear had been and Faren’Gar before that.
 
The Second round of capture the skull was Won by team King’s Rest, led by Jarl Elric.
 
The victory was a clear one but the use of Forest Blend was banned from use for the rest of the day.
 
The third round of capture the skull was altered a bit. All of the Jarls were placed on a team while the lesser folk of the Wood were broken up into two other teams. After much battle and bloodshed, the team from Old Tickle town led by Ordell of the Helions, but greatly supported by Michael Mouserider the Gnome, was victorious over the Jarls.
 
With everyone in fine spirits an escort mission was chosen for the next round. Two princesses were picked. Princess Marta and Princess Lady Z respectively. Each was escorted from an afterlife, D’eir’s garden or Eir’s garden, to each of the available Keeps with a magic chest in their possession. After visiting each Keep they then were to be escorted back to their afterlife.
 
This mission proved to be the most costly in lives, of all the day’s events. Princess Marta and her escort were wiped out except for Jarl Constintine. Princess Lady Z and her escort were able to make it through and bring her magic chest back to Eir’s Garden. These honorable battles and willingness to lose lives for the glory of the Myth Wood were enough to destroy the last two plague Pools.
 
As the winter winds begin to blow through the Myth Wood again, the Titan Plague has been vanquished from all corners of this magical realm.

Report on damage from recent weather event.

A couple days ago a major weather event occurred in the Myth Wood, we are unsure if it was a natural event or otherwise.   We have spent night and day getting basic services back up and running so that the denizens of the wood have what they need.   Unfortunately, due to not having been paid recently we are not sure how much work we can do to clear the trails on our own. We are considering getting together work parties of Einherjar to help to get the trails cleared.   Additional information will be coming soon.

Overall Status

  1. All trails have debris that need cleanup
  2. All buildings seem to be intact
  3. Every location is accessible except for D’eirs garden and the Wizards Tower.  Although sometimes only by climbing over small trees.
  4. Best guess is that there are 10-15 trees of all sizes that will need to be dealt with

Eastern wood

  1. Brannheim, Hammers Hold, The Graveyard, and the north mine are all accessible.
  2. Both trails connecting the Graveyard to Hammers Hold have trees that will need to be removed. The trail next to the road is fine but the other one cannot be used.
  3. Hammers Hold has a tree in town that needs removal 
  4. A small tree is down in Old Tickle Town that will need cleaning up

Kings rest.   

  1. Kings rest is only accessible via the muddy road to Gray Arrow or the north trail by the Lands of Stoltz via Old Tickle town.
  2. A tree is down if coming along the Stoltz road from the Graveyard.
  3. The trail that goes into Kings rest next to the Government center is 100% blocked by a large tree.  This is one of the bigger tasks that will need to be done.
  4. There is 1 small tree and 2 larger ones that went down in town.   The trees do not block the trails but the takedown will need to be finished.
  5. The roof of the government center has a couple holes in it. 

Gray Arrow

  1. Tree uprooted at the cross roads but it is not covering the trail.

Wizards Tower & D’Eirs Garden

  1. Totally inaccessible between trees down on both sides of the trail and the good sized mudpit on the trail by Gray Arrow.
  2. The Tower looked intact from what I could see.

Champions Hall

  1. Tree down at the end of the trail going towards the wizards tower
  2. Otherwise things looked fine

Trail to North Mine

  1. Trees down along the trails there.

West Mine trail & Arena

  1. Large tree down that blocks the end of the trail all the way to the base of the dock.
  2. It did not hit the dock!

The Myth Wood is made up of some fantastic people.   Today I would like to shoot out an extra thank you to everyone in the Wood who takes photographs and share them with us.  The majority of the moments captured in the last few years were shared by the four people above, including Fonzi who I don’t have a single full faced picture of.  Thanks again!

Recently I took some time and pulled together all the pictures, from many different places, that have been taken over the years and organized them into photo albums.  The Photos page now has at least a few pictures from every Myth Wood event that has ever been held. Feel free to dig in and look at the history.  If you find that you have some pictures that are not in the albums feel free to add them to the correct event album, Google Photos makes it easy.

Also, there is a video on the page that was taken at this years feast of the Jarls conference.  If you missed the feast and want to know what was discussed have a look.

Council of Jarls

The Myth Wood 2019 Feast and Awards ceremony was, as all are past Feasts, a great success. A big thank you to all the brave souls who attended and brought with them so much wonderful food. Even with the threat of impending blizzard-like conditions and debilitating plague like symptoms in certain households, we were able to celebrate the accomplishments of last year and begin the story for the 2019 Myth Wood L.A.R.P. season.

It was a wonderful day, and I am happy to report everyone made it home safely after the event. The Tournament this year will be held at the Pine City Armory and will be on April 13th. I hope to see you all again then.

Fun filled Facts

  1. 89 characters were played by 78 people in 2018, 33 of the 78 were new people this year. 
  2. Of the 1469 possible deaths this year, people hoarded 117 of them.  This totaled around 285k missed experience.  (Not counting the devils lives)
  3. Eir & D’eir gathered 519 deaths for their gardens this year.   2457 have been gathered since Day 1.
  4. 19,159 dirks are actively circulating through the Einherjar’s pockets.  
  5. 107,705 for Questing alone.
  6. 295,242 experience points were earned this year. 243 is the average experience points awarded per death.
  7. One of the things I do is keep track of all kills for all characters over time.   I rolled up the totals by person (not character) and here are the results. Matt – 132.5, Dan – 156, Ed – 161, & Cam 200.5
  8. Of the original 16 characters who played in the first Myth Wood event in 2013, 8 are still active in the wood.
  9. We had our highest single day record ever in June of this year with 56 people actively participating in the Events.

20! Wow!  We had a total of 20 characters level up in this event alone.   Congrats to all, it was a great day.

As usual, our Myth Wood Battle Photographers did a stellar job of capturing many great moments from the day.  Check the memories out here.  As always if you happen to have a few photos laying around to add please contact me so I can get them where they need to be.
