Winter 2016 Feast and Tournament

Many of us gathered together last Saturday for our annual tournament.   There were 15 people participating in the tournaments and about the same number of kids and spectators who showed up.

There were two tournaments throughout the day.  The first, and largest, was the one to determine who would wield FarinGar this year.   The tournament was a new style where each participant fought everyone else using the exact same weapons and each starting the fight with 3 lives.   We discovered that while we really like this style of tournament it makes for a long day, almost 5 hours of constant one-on-one battles.   In the end 89 battles were fought and after determining that the weapons weren’t going to hold up through every single fight we ended up skipping 16 battles that were unnecessary for determining the final victors.  Each participant fought in at least 8 battles.  This tournament was great because it offered a chance for people to fight in battles that they may have never fought with weapons they had never used before.

In the end Gadin and Elric both had won 13 out of their 14 battles.  One final battle between them determined that Gadin was the victor and would wield FarinGar for the 2016 LARP season.   For second place Elric was given the “Giant’s Knife” a +1 Demigod weapon that is able to break shields.  Third place was Calinos who won 11 of his 14 battles and was awarded a red skull that will be used during the storyline this season.  Honorable mention goes to Samheim, Faolin, and Arsten as the participants who were in the next category down.

The fight for the right to wear Eirs favor was a standard bracketed tournament.  In this tournament each participant used their weapon of choice and fought with 3 lives.   In the end Arsten pulled to the top as the victor.  There were some epic battles in this competition as well.

Rakil looked awesome and was a trooper showing up and fighting all day in full costume including a full length cloak.  Faolin was the most improved, winning 7 of his 12 battles for FarinGar.  Brother Ravenwood did a great demonstration of how to make longbows and helped many learn to shoot them, hopefully they will make a great addition to this years armory.   Chelon spent the day taking fantastic photos of the event to memorialize our fun.  Thanks to Becky for helping set out the food and run the paperwork for the day.  The Hobbit battles were a sight to behold!   We missed the Denizens of the Myth Wood that were unable to make it, but are looking forward to having everyone together on June 4th.

At the end of the day everyone had a great time visiting and fighting.  Many of us have realized just how far we will have to go to get into shape for the 2016 season.   This year we will find out what that Red Skull that Calinos won is all about.  We will be introduced to “A Game of Keeps”, a new strategy game (you may want to brush up on your chess skills).  Is Lady Tirza healed up from the Plague?  What will happen now that there is a Deamon Lord again?  What is King Balin up to?
